Diet has long been associated with fertility, so it’s no surprise that there are certain foods that particularly help with both male and female infertility. Enjoying more of these “superfoods” not only will raise your chances of getting pregnant but will also improve your general health. Below we have some of the most popular superfoods that help with fertility, in a later series we will cover how seed cycling can help infertility.

Pumpkin:

Pumpkin is rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and contains a large amount of digestible fiber. The rich B-carotene(which gives pumpkin and carrots it’s shared orange color!) helps the secretion of progesterone. Pumpkin can also increase the quality and quantity of male sperm.

Radish:

Beets otherwise known as a sweet radish is one of the best sources for resveratrol antioxidant which can help resist aging which is important for those over 40. Radishes are also nutritionally dense for the manufacture of sperm. For women, radishes can help weight loss in the hips and abdomen which can increase the function of the ovaries.

Avocado:

As mentioned previously here, Avocados are a super food that can greatly help infertility.  Not only does it help with the production of cervical mucus, more important it improves the function of the endometrial lining.

Studies conducted by the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology in Istanbul found that those who had avocados were 3.4 times more likely to have a child after IVF than those who didn’t.

Walnuts:

Walnuts are important in male fertility as it is high in Omega-6 and Omega-3 which improves both sperm motility and morphology. Walnuts are also high in Vitamin E which is particularly useful in endometrial health as it increases blood flow.

Asparagus:

The root for the word Asparagus means Shatavari which means “one who has 100 husbands” and has been widely used for centuries to regulate hormones and cure infertility. Asparagus is also rich in Vitamin C and fatty acids which increase the quality of sperm in men and balances hormones in women.

Pomegranate:

Did you know that aside from being used by Hades to lure Persephone to stay in the underworld it actually has properties that make it extremely useful for fertility? Pomegranates are rich in vitamin C, vitamin K, folic acid and other vitamins.  All these vitamins help increase blood flow, promote the uterine lining, and boost sperm quality in males. It is widely said that drinking just 8oz of 100% pomegranate juice per day can increase your chances of fertility. Do be careful though when mixing pomegranates with drugs for high cholesterol, high blood pressure or blood thinners, and consult your doctor before the intake of pomegranates.
